Basic Obedience

This course covers the five basic commands we think of as ‘Obedience.’ Come, Sit, Stay, Heel, Down, as well as combinations of these. Such as a down stay, sit stay or walking comfortably on a loose lead. We also deal with unwanted behaviors. This starts as (1) two hour consultation followed by the weekly lessons. We really don’t stop the lessons until the trainer and clients are satisfied with the dog’s performance.

Behavior Modification

Behavior modification addresses such problems as barking, digging, jumping on people, excessive chewing and other undesirable or destructive behaviors. These problems take time to reverse. They can be worked on during the course of obedience training sessions. If your dog has already gone through obedience training and is obedient to commands, we can strictly address these problem behaviors The Behavior Modification Only course includes one 2 hour consultation and 3 one hour follow-up lessons at 2 week intervals.

Puppy Training Classes

Puppy training classes address many and varied topics. During the consultation we will discuss what to expect from your new puppy, potty training, behavior modification as well as how to ensure problem behaviors do not get a ‘foothold’. You are encouraged to bring a list of any questions you may have concerning behavior, feeding, grooming, etc. During our training sessions some of what we will work on include proper manners, not pulling when on a leash, socialization, tolerating grooming procedures and nail trimming, sit, stay and come. Puppy classes include a 2 hour consultation and 4 one hour weekly classes.

Show Ring Training

Training your dog for the show ring can be fun!
In this class I will work on helping you find the perfect speed to show off your dog’s movement. Your dog will also learn to Stand For Exam. This includes keeping his feet still once you have them placed, being approached by the ‘judge’, allowing their mouth to be opened and examined as well as coat and structure examination. Both you and your dog will become comfortable with the ‘Out and Back’, the ‘L’, the Triangle, working on mats and typical ring procedure. This class is a once a week event.

Breed Selection

Over the years I have enjoyed the task of assisting many families in the decision of which dog breed is the best match for their family and lifestyle. I would love to help you find that perfect match too. This will involve sitting down over a cup of coffee and discussing such things as exercise needed, trainability, instincts, grooming requirements, your expectations and how much time you have to devote to this new member of your family. Once that you have decided which type of dog you are interested in acquiring I will assist you in your search for a reputable and responsible breeder from which you can obtain your new companion. I will also give you information on what ‘stuff’ your new puppy will need, potty training and how to insure that the first few weeks for you and your pup go as smoothly as possible.
This is a service that I offer at no charge.
